In the rapidly evolving Canadian digital economy, a critical challenge has emerged: a shortage of skilled professionals for key digital infrastructure roles. These roles, such as cloud engineers, cloud architects, DevOps specialists, and more, are the backbone of innovation, driving the development of today's digital tools and services. 

As the demand for these essential roles continues to grow, the gap widens between the supply of skilled professionals and the expanding needs of the digital economy. This gap poses risks to the adoption of digital technologies and innovation in Canada. 

In response to this challenge, ICTC has developed the "Beyond the Cloud" program. This groundbreaking initiative addresses the shortage of skilled individuals by providing industry-relevant, unique, and personalized upskill training for in-demand digital infrastructure roles to 500 selected individuals across Canada. 

These roles include:

  1. Cloud Engineers 
  2. Cloud Architects 
  3. Cloud Administrators 
  4. DevOps
  5. Back-End Developers 
  6. Network Administrators 
  7. Database Administrators



Employers Can Leverage This Program in Two Ways:


  1. Upskilling Existing Workforce

    Beyond the Cloud helps upskill your workforce with training tailored to high-demand digital infrastructure roles. ICTC offers a tailored solution to help upskill your workforce.

  2. Hiring a Highly Skilled and Job-ready Workforce

    Our comprehensive training program ensures that individuals undergo rigorous, hands-on learning experiences, preparing them to excel in key digital infrastructure roles.


Training Components: 
  • 3 mandatory technical skills courses
  • 1 mandatory soft skills course (newcomers must take 2 soft skills courses, including ICTC’s Agile Industry Mindset course)
  • 1 work-integrated learning project
  • 1 optional technical course
  • 1 optional soft skills course Job search support, including resume writing, interview strategies, and networking tips 


Cohort Schedule:
  • Cohort 1: March 1 – May 30, 2024
  • Cohort 2: June 1 – August 30, 2024
  • Cohort 3: September 1 – November 30, 2024


Eligibility Criteria:

Your employees are eligible for the Beyond the Cloud program if they meet the following criteria:

  • You are an employer who is looking to hire employees in key digital infrastructure roles.
  • You are a registered business or not-for-profit organization in Canada.
  • Your business is located in Canada.


Program Fee and Financial Aid:

Program Fee: $250.00 + tax (Valued at $5,000)

Note: Employers sponsoring their employees are responsible for covering the program fee.

  • Step 1: Nominate Your Employee(s)

Identify the individuals in your team you wish to upskill in one of the following roles: Cloud Engineers, Cloud Architects, Cloud Administrators, DevOps Specialists, Back-End Developers, Network Administrators, or Database Administrators. Complete the application form to kickstart the nomination process.


  • Step 2: Nomination Acceptance and Next Steps

Once the nomination is received, our program administrators will promptly review your candidates. You'll be contacted to discuss the next steps in preparing your accepted employees for their upskilling journey.


  • Step 3: Digital Infrastructure Assessment Tool

To tailor the training to the specific needs of each employee, they will complete a Digital Infrastructure Assessment tool both before the training. This tool ensures a personalized and tailored learning experience.


  • Step 4: Acceptance Notification

Upon successful completion of the nomination and review phases, you will receive a notification confirming your employee(s)' acceptance into the Beyond the Cloud program.


  • Step 5: Confirm Your Commitment

To secure your employee(s)' spots in the program, confirm your commitment by paying the training fee. This step solidifies your dedication to fostering a highly skilled and competitive workforce.


  • Step 6: Launching Your Employee’s Training

A customized training plan will be developed and mapped to the selected upskilling role and his/her competency level (introductory or intermediate level).
