As the demand for critical digital infrastructure and cloud roles like Back-End Developers, DevOps Specialists, Cloud Engineers, and more continues to rise, the gap widens between the supply of skilled professionals and expanding industry needs.  

In response, ICTC has developed Beyond the Cloud, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the shortage of skilled talent by providing industry-relevant and personalized upskill training for in-demand digital infrastructure and cloud roles to mid-career professionals looking to strengthen their portfolio.

Program Fee and Financial Aid:

Program Fee: $250.00

To apply for the Beyond the Cloud program, you must meet the following criteria:

 

  • You are a permanent resident, Canadian citizen, or a person to whom Refugee Protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • You are legally eligible to work in Canada. Work permit holders should have at least one year remaining upon starting the upskilling program  
  • You are currently residing in Canada  
  • You have a minimum of three years of work experience (work experience can include volunteer work, does not need to be three consecutive years, and must be outside of full or part-time studies [high school or post-secondary])  
  • You have foundational IT skills  
  • Must be able to commit to 10 weeks of training (supplemental to regular working hours)
  • Must be able to financially support yourself while participating in the program

 

Candidates who do not meet the application criteria will not be eligible for acceptance into the program. Ensure you follow all instructions carefully.

Step 1: Submit Your Application 

Complete the comprehensive application form, following the provided instructions carefully. 

 

Step 2: Digital Infrastructure Assessment 

Successful applicants will complete our Digital Infrastructure Assessment to personalize the training to meet their specific needs.  

 

Step 3: Virtual Consultation (30 minutes)

Selected candidates will be invited to a 30-minute Zoom interview to further assess their suitability for the program. 

 

Step 4: Notification of Acceptance

Receive official notification of acceptance into the Beyond the Cloud program. 

 

Step 5: Confirm Your Commitment

Confirm your commitment to the program by paying a non-refundable training fee of $250.

How many hours per week is the program?   

10-15 hours each week over the course of 10 weeks (supplemental to regular working hours).

 

Is the training in-person or online? 

Most of the training is online and self-paced. However, there is some live/facilitated training you will need to attend online. You will get a timeline/schedule once you’re in the program.  

 

What are the foundational IT skills needed for this program?   

  • A basic understanding of logic and object-oriented programming  
  • Intermediate level competency with Microsoft Excel  
  • Demonstrated ability to work with databases  
  • Basic statistical analysis skills  
  • Basic data management skills  
  • Basic knowledge of documentation and workflows  
  • Intermediate digital literacy skills (example: the ability to complete online research and exercise judgement regarding sources of information and accuracy)  
  • Comfort with cloud-based virtual collaboration tools like Google Docs, SharePoint, etc.    
  • Minimum of Grade 11 math    

 

Does this program have a work placement?  

There is an optional work-integrated learning project through Riipen which is up to 40 hours over 4 weeks.   

 

What are my job prospects once I complete the program?   

Completing the program enhances your employability significantly. The skills you gain in the program are in high demand, making you more attractive to employers. You’ll have access to career coaches, job readiness courses, virtual career fairs, and in-person networking events, all of which can boost your job prospects. 

 

I am already employed in Canada, am I eligible to apply?    

It depends on the current employment you have. If you consider yourself underemployed or working outside of your field and you think you will benefit from upskilling, you are eligible to apply for this program.  

 

Can I get financial aid for this program?   

After you are confirmed to participate in the program you will be prompted to pay the $250 program fee. It is at that time that you can email our team at BeyondCloud@ictc-ctic.ca to request financial assistance to offset the cost of the program. Our team will carefully evaluate each individual case on a first come, first served basis.  

 

What work experience do I need to qualify for Beyond the Cloud?   

This program is for learners with a solid foundation in information technology (IT). You need a minimum of three years of work experience.
