Focus on Information Technology (FIT)

Preparing students for successful careers in the ICT  (Information and Communication Technology) industry.

FIT provides secondary school students with valuable course pathways that foster ICT and digital skills development. FIT is a certificate program designed for Canadian students who want to learn real-world skills during secondary school.

The ICT industry is constantly evolving and requires a skilled workforce to keep up with the latest technologies and trends. In response to this need, the FIT (Focus on IT) program was developed by ICTC in partnership with top educational specialists and ICT employers. Since its launch in 2007, the program has provided practical IT and soft skills training to secondary school students interested in pursuing careers in ICT or fields that require knowledge of digital technologies.

FIT uses an experiential learning model to engage students and show them how their new skills can be applied in the real world. The program offers students unique learning experiences that develop their leadership and interpersonal, technical, and business skills. It also provides valuable course pathways that foster ICT and digital skills development.

The program requires a two to three-year commitment as students complete their secondary school diploma. Students can pursue the general FIT certificate or specialize in one of five areas: 

1. Cybersecurity
2. Software Design and Development 
3. Interactive Media
4. Network and Systems Operations 
5. Business and Information Analysis  

Students are encouraged to participate in industry work experiences (e.g., co-ops) and additional learning opportunities to gain practical hands-on experience.

FIT promotes innovative, strategic, solution-based thinking and prepares students for careers in the real world. It helps students understand the importance of building digital skills for business, education, community, and everyday life. FIT also encourages students to continue their digital learning into post-secondary education. Regardless of their chosen education program, integrating ICT skills is critical for success in today's world and for opening doors to future careers.
